Dubai Photo Collective (“we”, “us”) runs dubaiphotocollective.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have kept it in plain language on purpose.

1. Who we are

Dubai Photo Collective is a photography community based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. We operate this website, run photowalks and workshops, and host a members’ forum.

2. What we collect

When you create an account: your name, username, email address, and password. Passwords are stored encrypted and we cannot read them.

Your profile, if you choose to fill it in: things like what you shoot, your experience level, your camera, your social handles, a short bio, and a profile photo. All of these are optional.

What you post: forum topics and replies, comments, photographs, and messages you send to other members.

When you contact us: your name, email address, and whatever you write in the message.

When you sign up for an event: your name and email address, so we know who is coming.

Automatically, when you visit: your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, and referring site. This is standard web server and security logging.

3. How we use it

We use your information to:

  • create and run your member account
  • display your profile and posts to other members
  • send you account emails such as confirmations, password resets, and notifications you have opted into
  • organise photowalks, workshops, and other events
  • reply to your messages
  • moderate the community and enforce our Community Guidelines
  • keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

4. Photos and content you share

Anything you post publicly on this site, including photographs, forum posts, your profile, and your display name, can be seen by other members and, in most areas, by visitors who are not logged in. Please only share what you are comfortable being public.

You keep ownership of the photographs you post. By posting them, you give us permission to display them on this website and, where we credit you, to feature them in our galleries or on our social channels. You can ask us to remove your images at any time.

If your photographs show other people, it is your responsibility to have their consent before posting, as set out in our Community Guidelines.

5. Cookies

We use cookies for essential things: keeping you logged in, remembering your preferences, and keeping the site secure and fast. Some are set by WordPress and the plugins that run the forum, member profiles, forms, and caching.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site, including logging in, will stop working properly.

6. Who we share data with

We use a small number of third party services to run the site. They only receive what they need to do their job:

  • IONOS, our web hosting and email provider, which stores the site and sends our email
  • Akismet, which checks forum posts and form submissions for spam
  • Plugin services that power our forum, member profiles, forms, and events

We may also disclose information if we are legally required to do so, or where necessary to protect the safety of our members.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Content you have posted may remain on the site after your account is deleted, though it will no longer be linked to your profile. Server and security logs are kept for a limited period and then discarded.

8. Your rights and choices

You can:

  • view and edit your profile information at any time from your account
  • ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • ask us to delete your account and personal information
  • unsubscribe from notification emails using the link in those emails or your account settings

9. Deleting your account

You can delete your own account from your account settings. You can also email us and we will do it for you. Deleting your account removes your profile and personal details. Tell us if you also want your posts and photographs removed.

10. Age

This site is not intended for children. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you believe a child has registered, contact us and we will remove the account.

11. Security

We use HTTPS across the site, keep our software updated, and run a security plugin and spam filtering. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

12. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy as the community grows or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. Significant changes will be announced in the forum.
